CAT - Introduction
- Common Admission Test, popularly known as (CAT) is the largest MBA India Entrance Test conducted by IIMs. The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) started this exam and it’s being an initial screening test offers a tough competition for admission in top B-schools which offer a very high package during placement.
- This computer-based test is conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) on a rotational basis for admission to their 2-year full-time postgraduate programs in management. It acts as a gateway to IIMs and 1200+ b schools all over India. Other Indian business schools like IITs, FMS, S P Jain, MDI, (number of private as well as government management institute) also accept CAT scores as part of their selection process
- CAT has both MCQs as well as NON-MCQs questions as this exam is known for its unpredictable paper and pattern, but the trend shows that major sections are: Quantitative Ability, Data Interpretation, Data Sufficiency, Logical Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Verbal Reasoning and Verbal Ability
- The duration of the test in 3 hours, allotting each section 1 hour, the screen won’t be switched from each section. Negative marks are allotted for the wrong answer. Until CAT 2013, the CAT was held over a window of a couple of weeks in October/November. In CAT 2014, when TCS started conducting the test, the structure of the exam was changed, and the test window was reduced to two days. From 2015, CAT has become a one-day test and the same pattern has been followed since then
- CAT 2021 exam will be conducted on 28th November 2021.
- Candidates applying for CAT 2020 should fulfill any one of the following conditions:
- The candidate must hold a Graduation Degree, with a minimum aggregated 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of the candidates belonging to reserved categories that are Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Persons With Disability (PwD) categories] from any recognized institute
- Candidates who will be in their final year of graduation degree can also apply for CAT 2021 exam
